After a dozen years of using mediation, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is enthusiastic about this tool's ability to resolve disputes between employers and employees. "Mediation is really time-efficient," says EEOC Chair Can M. Dominguez. "It resolves issues promptly. It doesn't allow issues to fester."
Charges that go into mediation are disposed of in an average of 86 days, she says--about half the time required for charges that are not mediated.
