Elizabeth I, one of the greatest monarchs of all time, was born in Greenwich Palace on September 7 1533, near the buildings of the present-day National Maritime Museum.
The brick riverside palace - which no longer stands - was a favourite of all the Tudor monarchs and it became Elizabeth's most favoured out-of-town residence when she was Queen. So where better to stage a major exhibition on the life of Elizabeth I than at Greenwich, where so much happened in her dramatic life?
