NAMUR, WIS. (AP) -- Harry Chaudoir Sr. still speaks Walloon, lives on a dairy farm and hangs on to his Belgian-American heritage, even as others in his community move elsewhere.
At 99, Chaudoir is one of the oldest Belgian-Americans in northeastern Wisconsin, the largest settlement of Walloon-speaking Belgians in the United States.
The community is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year even as its Belgian identity is waning. Few but the oldest members speak Walloon.
