Nineteen 100 horsepower motors made by ten different manufacturers. Ten spare motors, of which only four could replace the nineteen in service. This lack of standardization at a plant is costly, and not uncommon, says Mary Anderson, national account manager, at Rodwell Automation Power Services, Greenville, S.C. Working with customers on motor and mechanical maintenance, she often sees companies operating without the right integral motor inventory. This problem continues unless a company examines its MRO motor needs and creates a long-term plan to standardize its integral motors.
