By taking simple steps such as recycling burned-out fluorescent lights and old thermometers, a ton of mercury can be diverted from the environment, government officials said yesterday.
Gov. Gary Locke announced a statewide plan to reduce the sale and use of mercury-containing items and encourage recycling other products.
