VILLA SAN GIOVANNI, Italy - Professor Enzo Monaco is the Dr. Pepper of Calabria. Literally. The 61-year-old former journalist - a grizzled Woody Allen look-alike - has devoted his life to spreading the gospel of peperoncino. The peperoncino - chili pepper - is an ubiquitous ingredient in these parts.
