Elmendorf Air Force Base Impact on Anchorage, Alaska, Economy Increases.

Apr. 22--The economic impact of Elmendorf Air Force Base on the Anchorage economy rose $56 million last year to a total of about $720 million, Col. Robertus "Dutch" Remkes, commander of the 3rd Wing, said Monday.

That figure, based on a fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2002, includes the base's payroll, expenditures and the value of what military officials estimate are the number of indirect jobs spun off by the base.
