A bill to allow mourning doves to be hunted in Minnesota took a hit in the Minnesota Legislature last week.

A House committee shot down a bill that would establish a dove hunting season and also require hunters to buy a $5 dove stamp. Those funds would go into the state's nongame wildlife fund, a provision intended to garner support among non-hunters.

But the House Ways and Means Committee killed the bill on a 12-10 vote.

However, a similar dove hunting bill that has no provision for a dove stamp remains alive in both the Senate ...
