Words can share thoughts and ideas, give directions, impart knowledge, and express emotions. They can also do something a lot more fun: They can entertain writers and readers alike.
Word games, or wordplay, can make you a better writer too. Playing with words increases your vocabulary--and a healthy vocabulary is crucial for any writer. Wordplay also increases your awareness of the shades of meaning of words, your knowledge of the way writers use the sounds of words, and your confidence in finding "just the right word."
