Érico Lopes Veríssimo

Érico Lopes Veríssimo , 1905–75, Brazilian writer. Veríssimo lectured and taught in the United States. He wrote (in English) Brazilian Literature (1945). His best-known novel is Caminhos cruzados (1935; tr. Crossroads, 1943). His other works include two studies of North American culture and Mexico (1957, tr. 1960). He was director (1953–56) of the Dept. of Cultural Affairs of the Pan-American Union. Veríssimo's fiction has been published as Ficção completa (1966–67).
