Hunza

Hunza , former princely state, 3,900 sq mi (10,101 sq km), NW Kashmir, administered by Pakistan. Declared a British protectorate in 1893, Hunza acceded to Pakistan after the partition of British India (1947). Local control stayed in the hands of the prince, or mir, until 1974.
