Gadsden gădz´den , city (1990 pop. 42,523), seat of Etowah co., NE Ala., on the Coosa River; settled in 1846, inc. 1871. Iron, coal, limestone, sand, clay, and timber are found in the area. Gadsden has metal, textile, and electronics industries and a large tire and rubber plant. The city is home to Gadsden State Community College.
