Bessemer
Bessemer bĕs´emer , city (1990 pop. 33,497), Jefferson co., N central Ala.; inc. 1887. Founded as a mining town in a mineral-rich area, it was named after Sir Henry Bessemer , inventor of the Bessemer process for manufacturing steel, and had significant iron and steel industries. There is metal fabrication and the manufacture of construction and railroad equipment and foundry products.
