Anton Stepanovich Arensky

The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition

Anton Stepanovich Arensky , 1861-1906, Russian composer; pupil of Rimsky-Korsakov at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. After 1882 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory and became (1895) conductor of the Imperial Chapel Choir. He wrote operas, including A Dream on the Volga (Moscow, 1890), chamber and orchestra music, songs, and piano works.
