Leaders suggest OSCE aegis of Trans-Dniester force

Russian and Moldovan officials tried to move closer to resolving one of Europe's most protracted territorial disputes Wednesday, agreeing to revamp a Russian-led peacekeeping force but only once the territory's final status is resolved.

The lack of any substantive progress on the status of Trans-Dniester appeared to be a failure for President Dmitry Medvedev who tried to broker a breakthrough in the 17-year-old dispute.
