NTSC
NTSC Abbrev. for National Television System Committee, which devised the NTSC television broadcast system in 1953. The NTSC standard has vertical resolution of 525 horizontal lines in two interlaced fields that are displayed at 60 fields per second. One full frame is made of two interlaced fields, and is displayed about every 1/30 of a second. NTSC is used in the Americas, many Pacific countries, and the Caribbean. It is seldom used for computer monitors except where compatibility with TV and video is required. See also PAL, SECAM.
